All My Friends are Dead (2020)

All My Friends are Dead is Polish Netflix film and its the second one that they have produced after the enjoyable Nobody Sleeps in the Woods that came out last year. If you search this film then you may get this which is called Wszyscy moi przyjaciele nie żyją or you get a film directed by Brandon Guilles. It’s rather unfortunate to have two films out at roughly the same time. I’ll be honest I was expecting a zombie type film but I didn't get that. The film starts with two cops arriving at a house where everyone bar one person is dead. We then see the events of the night before which at least means that you don't have to worry about the fate of everyone at the party cause they are alive. The party is where we are introduced to a whole load of characters most of whom I have forgotten their names.

The film does have quite a comedic vibe to it. There is a guy who is a wannabe rapster and his girlfriend is a spiriutalist and then there is a morman who spends the movie having sex and seeing visions of Jesus. There is a pizza delivery guy who spends the film trying to get paid and is taking so long his boss is harassing him on the radio and his mothers house is on fire (I think) and then finds the guy hosting the party who got shot by accident and pockets some money and washes it until it disintegrates.

The pizza guy kills himself but writes a note saying that he thinks he has found the cure to Alzehiemers but I liked how there was a call back to the beginning of the film when the one detective was throwing up and seemingly normal toilet paper is used to mop things up. The film then takes a weird turn when it appears that all the characters are in some sort of purgatory. The film then ends on a line about a key which was said earlier in the film and I’m not quite sure what the point of this is or what the whole purgatory scene is for.

The actual scene where everyone dies reminded me a bit of Parasite because that film is a normal film and then just changes gear and goes completely crazy and the same happens here. Things are happening and then people are getting shot, a woman gets a breast implant splattered with a baseball bat, one guy gets his face smashed on a piano and everyone gets electrocuted. I spent the entire time of this sequence asking myself what I was watching but thinking that the film picked up a lot (not that it was terrible by any means). The film shows at the beginning that one person survived because they got stretchered out but by the time the film reaches its conclusion there are at least two more people that survived. The two stoners that spend the film sitting on the bench outside. The film never addresses what happens.

I really liked this film. If this were a Hollywood film then all the characters would be annoying and I probably wouldn't care but this film works well enough so that whilst the characters aren't perfect, things are going at such a speed that you dont really have time to take things in. If you like violence with humour and dont mind subtitles then this film will be worth your time. Crazy does seem like the right word to describe this film but I’m not Stephen Fry so it will have to o.
